Ugh, I probably shouldn't write a review so quickly after I have finished a book, but seriously. I don't know what to make of this author. Parts of this book I loved, other parts(particularly toward the very end)I was like, wth?Let me clarify, I really, really liked Eric. He's sexy, hot as hell and incredibly principled- without having a stick up his ass kind of hero. I thought the author did a great job with him from the first page, where he is trying to get this annoying crazy woman off his, and his pack's land before she gets hurt. Eric and his fellow Runners were the best part of this book. Well, and the sex. Most of the sex scenes were pretty smoking, I have to say.But--oh, BUT. I don't like Chelsea, I mean, not really at ALL. While I can sympathize with protecting yourself and having trust issues, sometimes she just came off as a major witch. Also, while most of the book is really great, there were twists and rushed scenes that felt way off or almost pasted in at times. The ending was the worst of this, it felt totally rushed, like the author was bored and just said let's get it over with already. Not a good way to end. Honestly if the last 20 pages would have been better, I def would have given it 4 stars, but as it was, no dice. 3 stars it is. I don't read werewolf stories too often, opting to usually go with vampires instead. Dark Wolf Rising though was a good diversion from my normal paranormal fare. There's some great backstory so even if you haven't read the other books in the Bloodrunners series (like me), you'll still be up to speed as you read through this book. The characters were written quite well, though sometimes Chelsea-while a strong female lead-can be a bit too stubborn. Eric makes for great book boyfriend material with his protective nature and kind heart (while still being a badass). The sexual tension between the two of them keeps building and building...a definite 18+ mature readers only on this one.I enjoyed the writing and everything flowed well, making this an easy read. I'll definitely be picking up the other books in this series.
Disappointing. Too much bodice-ripping, not enough world-building.
Loved this story especially E.& C. relationship.3.5 stars
Eric Drake is absolutely delicious!
