This story grew on me as I listened to it. The reader was drawn in to the responsibility of Carey caring for her little sister Jenessa who chooses not to speak. As the story progresses we find out bits and pieces that let to her sisters muteness. The girls are found by their dad and brought back to live with him in the city. Their whole life is turned upside down thrust into a bright and perplexing new world of high school, clothes and boys. Now, Carey must face the truth of why her mother abducted her ten years ago, while haunted by a past that won't let her go. This book is just stunning. I was given it for my birthday last year, and I didn't expect it to have the impact it did on me. I was browsing through my bookcase, and when I picked it up I was inspired to write about it again. If you find me is breathtakingly beautiful. It explores the consequences of child neglect, and leaves you with tears streaming down your face. Carey is an amazing main character, and is the product of her harsh environment. We see the story through her eyes, and this means we become confused about certain characters such as her father. Emily Murdoch did a wonderful job at taking us on the journey with Carey, and we fall in love with all the characters with her. The plot twist are like a stab in the gut, and it makes you want to sob for weeks. But in the end, it is all woven together so beautifully that you forget how painful it was in the middle. This book is a mix of an intriguing plot, stunning characters, and beautiful writing. Emily Murdoch did an amazing job with this novel, and I can't wait to pick up more of her work. I highly recommend this to everyone. Go order it now!
