The sequel to Falling Kingdoms was just as thrilling. Rebel Spring picks up soon after the ending of the first book. Cleo is essentially a prisoner in this book, but she is a brave character who is headstrong and brave. The book alternates between many different perspectives, some of which are more enjoyable than others. I particularly enjoyed the chapters from Cleo, Jonas, and Magnus. The plot moves along at a steady pace with lots of action and no shortage of deaths. Once again you are left on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book. I can't tell if the characters that made me ??? in the previous book really improved or if I just grew more used to their wtfery but I felt more tolerant towards them even if they still have their moments. A lot of them, in fact. but still. More tolerable. Unfortunately I feel like there are some things that still feel rushed or shoehorned in regards to the romances as if the author feels that there needs to be romance at all times and areas with every character. Which is a shame because I think her characters are fine on their own and some of these new romances just feel unnecessary and might've been better if it was introduced later or drawn out so it doesn't feel cheap and shallow and like a plot device to have some kind of love quadrangle. That aside, I didn't feel like the book suffers from the dreaded second book syndrome - story and overarching plot and worldbuilding continues to be interesting and my favorite POVs to read are still the Limeros characters and the Watchers.
