I have enjoyed all of Jen Lancaster's previous books and this one did not disappoint. Jen and her husband, Fletch, have settled in the suburbs of Chicago, and the beginning of 2012 find her frustrated about many aspects of her life. She then sets out to 'do' Martha Stewart - she wants to garden, decor, cook, and entertain like the inimitable Martha. Along the way, she learns a lot, about herself, and Martha, and life. There are setbacks along the way but even those provide fodder for her self-discovery. I liked this book. The Tao of Maisy was good advice to live by for anyone, 2- or 4-footed: be awesome, give awesome, get awesome.Quotes to remember:...whatever happens, this is your new normal....I've learned that you do whatever it is you need to do. You don't hesitate....You'll make it work and you won't think twice about the process.Sometimes marriage isn't about love and companionship as much as it is a fine balancing act involving mutually assured destruction.Funny thing about grief - you can't run away from it. You can fill your days with activity and even leave town, but it follows you.Grief is the ultimate debt collector....if you don't enjoy the process, then stop. I don't know why I keep reading Jen Lancaster's books. Her same formula of taking on some project for a year, and this time it's a completely boring subject -- channeling Martha Stewart. She has a pretty posh life in the burbs, complete with gigantic house and pool, which is very unlike her most of her readers. Not having children, she dotes on her dogs and cats like they're children. With that being the backdrop of her book, it feels like she's alienating her readers by walking around her house in her jammies cleaning up after her dogs and cats and trying to get her favorite dog to eat thousands of dollars in pet medicine while her readers are toiling at work all day.
First experience with Jen Lancaster and I laughed out loud more than once. Super fun read.
Not as strong as her first books but still entertaining none-the-less.
This book was hysterical!
laughed my ass off.
